The No. 24 Lindenwood men's golf team had its best showing at the NAIA National Championship in three years as the Lions tied for 11th at the conclusion of the event on Friday afternoon. Richard Docherty had one of the top individual showings in school history with a top 10 finish.
Lindenwood finished with a four-round total of 1215, which included two rounds under 300. The team tied with Victoria and was just one stroke shy of a top 10 showing.
Docherty tied for eighth place out of 155 golfers by shooting a nine-over-par 293. Lourens Kleynhaus was second on the team by shooting a 307, which tied him for 52nd. Morgan Leigh finished with a 312, one shot better than teammate Paul Colditz and five shots better than Jonathan Haedt.
Day Four Recap
Lindenwood concluded its season with its top round of the national championship, as the Lions shot a 297. With that score, the Lions stayed at 11th-place in the team standing.
Docherty led the team on the final day by shooting a one-under-par 70. Only two golfers in the entire field had a better score for the fourth round. Colditz shot his best round of the tournament with a one-over-par 72.
Other scores were a 77 from Leigh, a 78 from Kleynhaus, and a 79 from Haedt.
Day Three Recap
Scores were up during day three of the national championship, and Lindenwood was no exception. The Lions had their highest score of the tournament with a 315, but that moved the team up one spot in the standing and helped it make the cut.
Leigh was the team leader during the round by shooting a 74, one shot better than Docherty. The other three Lions shot 80 or higher on the day.
Day Two Recap
Lindenwood shot a 304 during the second round and fell to 12th place in the team standing.
Leigh led the Lions during the second round with a three-over-par 74. He recorded 13 pars on the day and had just one bad stretch in which he bogeyed three straight holes. Docherty was close behind after shooting a 75. He was seven-over after 12 holes, but birdied three times down the stretch to tie Colditz for the team lead after 36 holes.
Other scores on day two were Colditz shooting a 77, Kleynhaus shooting 78, and Haedt finishing with an 82.
Day One Recap
Lindenwood got off to a good start, tying for eighth-place as a team after the first 18 holes. The Lions were tied with two other teams after shooting a 15-over-par 299 as a team. It marked the fifth straight round that Lindenwood has shot under 300. The field was crowded after day one, with Lindenwood just eight shots behind the leader, and also just four shots ahead of four teams tied for 19th place.
Individually, Kleynhaus led the team by shooting an even-par 71. He was tied for ninth in the individual standing. Kleynhaus had three birdies, including two in the final three holes.
Other first-round scores included Docherty shooting a 74, Haedt recording a 76, Colditz carding a 78, and Leigh finishing with an 80.
