Lindenwood Women’s Ice Hockey Announces 2011-12 Captains

Lindenwood women's hockey head coach Vince O'Mara has announced the student-athletes who will be team captains for the 2011-12 season.

Junior forward Bret Lobreau (Dryden, Ontario) will serve as the captain as the program continues its transition to the NCAA level. Lobreau is the active leading scorer returning for the Lady Lions with 99 career points. Her point total ranks 12th all-time in Lindenwood history and her 50 career goals ranks ninth all-time.

“Bret has shown great leadership qualities since her freshman season, but last year she really took an active role as a team leader,” said O'Mara. “She is a leader in the classroom, the gym, and on the ice, and well respected by her teammates”

Sophomore forward Kelsey Talbot (Calgary, Alberta) will serve as an assistant captain for the 2011-12 Lady Lions. Talbot led the team last season in points with 55 on 27 goals and 28 assists.

“Kelsey really came a long way in her freshman season and as the season went on we all noticed her game elevate to a higher level,” said O'Mara. “She works extremely hard in the classroom and on the ice and has gained the trust of her teammates to lead them in our future endeavors.”

Coach O'Mara has a few players in mind for the second assistant captain but will wait to make any final decisions until next fall.

The 2011-12 season will mark the first year that the Lindenwood women's hockey team will play a full NCAA schedule. The Lady Lions competed in the previous eight seasons in the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association) where they won four national championships.
