The 2005-06 men's basketball team was one of the top squads in program history. The team started slow and went just 5-5 in non-conference play during the regular season. The Lions hit their stride though during conference action as they took control of the race early with six straight wins. Lindenwood would end up winning its first HAAC Championship with a 17-3 mark. After losing in the HAAC semifinals, Lindenwood earned a bid to the NAIA Division II National Tournament for the second time in school history. At nationals, the Lions advanced to the semifinals for the first time with wins over Dordt, Taylor, and Mount Vernon Nazarene. Lindenwood's run ended there with a loss to the host, College of the Ozarks.
Lindenwood, which was coached by HAAC Coach of the Year Ryan Cherepkai, finished the season with a 26-10 record. The Lions set school records for wins and conference wins and had a first-team All-American on the squad for the first time in program history.
