The 14th ranked Lindenwood women's volleyball team kicked off the regular season with four wins at the HAAC Preseason Tournament this past weekend. The Lions picked up victories against Missouri Valley, Culver-Stockton, MidAmerica Nazarene and Graceland, dropping only two games in the two day event.
Lindenwood opened play on Friday against Missouri Valley, winning 3-0, by scores of 25-16, 25-13, 25-20. Junior Victoria Krause paced the Lions with seven kills. Sophomore Kelsey Biggs recorded 14 assists and Alyssa Showers led the team with 10 digs. Kelsey Jo Vogler added three blocks.
The Lions dropped the opening set to Culver-Stockton in the nightcap, but rebounded to win the next three games to take the match, 22-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-15. Biggs was the story against the Wildcats, recording 27 assists and two service aces. Freshman Patricia Erb had 12 digs while Krista Yoder and Ellen Fandry had 11 kills apiece. Up front, Vogler tallied six blocks and three others had four apiece.
Against MidAmerica Nazarene, the Lions wasted little time, sweeping the Pioneers, 25-15, 25-13, 25-17. For the second consecutive contest, Fandry paced the team with 15 kills. Biggs had another big day recording 26 assists. Showers added eight digs from her libero position. Vogler and Yoder each recorded two blocks.
Lindenwood wrapped up tournament play against Graceland, winning 3-1, 25-17, 16-25, 25-19, 25-12. Fandry had a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. Krause added 11 kills, while Showers added 15 digs. Biggs tallied 11 digs and 27 assists, her third straight match with 26 assists or more. Yoder and Vogler had five and four blocks, respectively. Biggs and Yoder each tallied two service aces.
The No. 14 Lions (4-0) resume play next Friday, September 4th, at the Columbia College Tournament. Their first match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. against Missouri Baptist.
