Lindenwood women's soccer showed its No. 24 preseason national ranking was not a fluke as it defeated No. 15 Savannah College of Art and Design by a 1-0 score on Saturday.
The Lady Lions withstood an early onslaught by the Bees as SCAD recorded nine shots in a 15 minute span in the first half, the last which hit the crossbar. Less than three minutes after SCAD hit the crossbar, Lindenwood stole the momentum when
Lindsay Shea scored in the 40th minute.
McKenzie Creamer helped set up Shea's fourth goal of the young season.
The next big break of the game for the Lady Lions came in the 52nd minute when a Bee player was sent off with a red card. With the man advantage, Lindenwood was able to control play for the rest of the second half, allowing just four shots for the final 38 minutes.
Jessica Morelli earned the victory in goal for the Lady Lions. She made five saves in the game.
Lindenwood improves to 2-0-0 on the year and will look for its third straight victory on Monday at Brenau (Ga.).
