No. 20 Lions Earn First HAAC Win

The 20th ranked Lindenwood volleyball team bounced back from its first two losses of the season, sweeping Culver-Stockton tonight, 3-0, to pick up its first conference win.

Lindenwood dropped a pair of decisions this past Saturday to Savannah College of Art and Design and nationally ranked Columbia College, but looked impressive in its first conference match winning by scores of 25-21, 25-8, 25-21.

The Lions had difficulty putting Culver-Stockton away in the first set, as the two teams traded points late in the game. With the score tied at 21, the Lions surged ahead with a four point run to capture the set. In game two, the Lions took control early and used their size around the net to force the Wildcats into a must win third set. In game three, Culver-Stockton staged a late run, but the Lions eventually sealed the victory with a Victoria Krause block.

Ellen Fandry led the team with a double-double, notching 11 kills and 10 digs. Krista Yoder had 11 kills of her own. Patricia Erb added nine digs. HAAC Setter of the Week, Kelsey Biggs, tallied 28 assists. Yoder was responsible for five blocks. Kelsey Jo Vogler and Krause each had three blocks in a winning effort.

The No. 20 Lions (7-2, 1-0) will now prepare for the Graceland tournament this weekend. Opponents and times will be announced later this week. Visit www.lindenwoodlions.com in the upcoming days for more information.
