For the second straight weekend the Lindenwood men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at Washington University in St. Louis. One week ago it was just the Bears against the Lions, this weekend three other squads joined the party in the pool. The men had the strongest showing finishing second in the two day event and the women would finish the meet in third.
The Lindenwood men's team compiled 963 points to place second behind Missouri S&T, who finished with 869.5. The Lady Lions finished the meet with 583 points well behind Washington University (792.5 points) and DePauw University (772.5).
After day one the men's team was in third place trailing both Missouri S&T and DePauw. When day two started the Lions won the first three out of six events to pass DePauw and only finish behind Missouri S&T.
Diver Colin Sharpe began the meet with a first place finish in the one meter diving event with a total score of 409.4 and finished off the sweep of the diving events with a win in the three meter. The 200 yard medley relay team edged Missouri S&T by .07 of a second to finish on top of the podium. The 400 yard medley relay team followed up with another win.
Javier Hernandez destroyed his competition in the 200 yard butterfly by almost four seconds to win the event, he was also was victorious in the 100 yard butterfly. Simon Morley placed fourth in the 200 yard backstroke on day one and on day two he was the winner of the 100 yard backstroke. Finally DJ Ashruf finished third in the 100 yard freestyle and first in the 50 yard freestyle.
The Lady Lions were led by Lauren Thrasher and Sarah Billamosa who finished fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke and the 200 yard backstroke, respectively. Jessica Reinitz was the only Lady Lion to finish in the top spot with a win in the 100 yard butterfly. The 200 yard freestyle team finished first and the 200 yard medley also finished in the top five at third place.
Both squads will be back in the pool on January 23rd against St. Louis, Illinois IT and Missouri state at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.
