Lindenwood Halts Skid, Sweeps Harris Stowe

The Lindenwood softball team broke out of its recent slump, and swept visiting Harris-Stowe State Saturday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex. The Lady Lions took game one by a score of 4-1, and then shut out the Lady Hornets 3-0 in game two.

Lindenwood failed to collect a hit through the first three innings of game one, but broke through in the fourth, scoring three runs on two hits. With the bases loaded, Miranda Schlosser had bloop single down the left field line that drove in one run. Two batters later, Caitlin Diesen slapped a single to left field to plate two more runners.

Harris-Stowe picked up its only run of the day on a bases loaded walk in the fifth. Lindenwood added an insurance run in the sixth when Schlosser scored on a throwing error by the Hornets' third baseman.

Rebecca Peddicord notched her second win of the year, scattering four hits over six innings, while issuing the one free pass and striking out three.

Aubrey Moss was lights out in game two, tossing her second one-hit game in the last 12 days.

Harris-Stowe's only hit came in the top of the fifth when Traniece Venable connected on a double.

The Lady Lions scored twice in the fourth, and once more in the fifth to give Moss all the run support she would need.

She faced just two batters above the minimum in her fourth victory of the season. She walked one and struck out six.

Diesen and Samantha Van Pelt each posted an RBI, and Sophia Galati scored once and drove in a run.

Lindenwood (14-16, 6-2), who had lost six straight games coming into today's doubleheader, will resume conference play this Tuesday at Culver-Stockton.
