Lindenwood Set to Host Central Methodist in HAAC Semifinals

Storyline

Lindenwood advanced to the HAAC tournament semifinals for the second straight year after dispatching of Baker in the quarterfinals this past weekend. 

The Wildcats put a scare into the conference's regular season champion, edging the Lady Lions in game one. Lindenwood responded by taking the next two games, totaling 28 hits and 19 runs in the two victories. 

Lindenwood will host Central Methodist in the semifinals in a best-of-three series. It's a rematch of last year's semis in which the Lady Eagles advanced in two games.

Quarterfinal Results
Lindenwood rebounded after an opening loss in its best-of-three series against Baker by taking the next two to advance to the HAAC tournament semifinals. 

The Wildcats won game one 2-1, but Lindenwood responded with blowout victories in game two and three. 

Trailing 2-1 in the fourth inning in game two, the Lady Lions' bats finally heated up. Lindenwood scored nine runs over the next three innings to win 10-3, compilng a season-high 17 hits. 

Jodi Urhahn was a perfect 4-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, and Danille Merli collected three hits and scored three times. Jessica Long and Caitlin Diesen both posted two hits and drove in a pair of runs. 

Rebecca Peddicord got the win, allowing three runs over four and two-third innings. She struck out five and walked two. 

Game three was much of the same as the Lady Lions won 9-1, logging 11 more hits in the win.
Sophie Berman had two of those hits and drove in two runs. Long and Sophia Galati each scored once and had a run-scoring base hit. 

Heidi Schertzer went four innings, allowing one run on four hits to earn the win.

Filling Up The Boxscore
Sophie Berman collected four hits in the series win against Baker. She drove in four runs and scored three times. 

Against HAAC opponents this season, Berman is batting .450 and has collected 14 RBIs. Her mark of .450 is good for second on the team.

Locked In
Sophia Galati has been locked in at the plate over her last nine games. She is 15-28 with five home runs, 11 RBIs, and eight runs scored. 

In seven of the nine games, Galati has served as the team's designated hitter. In eight games this year as the DH, she is batting .625 and slugging 1.167. 

Galati leads the team in home runs (9), RBIs (31), total bases (76), and slugging percentage (.618).

Home Cooking
Lindenwood continues to play well at home. On the season, the Lady Lions are 19-10 in St. Charles and 12-3 versus HAAC opponents. 

At home, the team is averaging 5.2 runs compared to 3.5 on the road.

Teeing Off
Lindenwood batters have feasted on HAAC pitching. Lady Lion hitters are batting .339 and the team is averaging 5.8 runs per game, compared to hitting .282 and scoring 4.1 runs in non-conference games.

Hitting Streaks
Samantha Van Pelt is currently on a 17-game hitting streak, which is the longest streak by any Lady Lion this year. During that stretch, she is hitting .413 with six doubles, 10 runs driven in, and 10 runs scored.

Slick Fielding
Lindenwood ranks sixth in the NAIA in fielding percentage with a mark of .970. That mark is also tops in the conference.

Limiting Mistakes
Lindenwood committed just one error in its series win against Baker. In games in which the Lady Lions do not commit an error, they are 16-4. 

The team is 14-9 when committing just one and 2-6 when recording two or more.

Highway Robbery
The Lady Lions have swiped 76 bases this year, which ranks 31st in the nation and third in the HAAC.

Dominant Pitching
Against HAAC competition, Lindenwood pitchers have compiled an ERA of 1.92, the third best mark in the conference. 

Earlier This Year
Lindenwood swept Central Methodist earlier this year in St. Charles. 

Danielle Merli's RBI single in the fifth inning was the difference in game one, as the Lady Lions won 1-0. 

Rebecca Peddicord pitched seven strong innings, scattering five hits and tying a season-high in strikeouts with eight. 

Lindenwood netted a five-run first in game two, and went on to win 6-3. 

Jodi Urhan collected two hits and drove in one. Chelsea Landeck and Jessica Long both had two RBIs. 

Heidi Schertzer picked up the win in relief, tossing four scoreless innings.

Scouting Central Methodist
Central Methodist advanced to the semifinals after taking two of three from William Jewell in the quarterfinals. 

The Lady Eagles have won seven of their last ten games, and posted a 12-8 record against HAAC opponents this year. 

Central Methodist ranks second in the conference in both runs scored (5.67), home runs (29), and slugging percentage (.465). On the season, the Lady Eagles have compiled 87 doubles, 15th best in the NAIA. 

Offensively, the team is led by Stephanie Sullivant who has a team-high 59 hits and 40 RBIs. Holly Adams is the top home run threat with seven, and six players have three or more round trippers. 

McCall Kenney and Chelsea Fuemmeler are the co-aces of the staff. Kenney is 11-10 with a 2.71 ERA and Fuemmeler is 14-8 with a 2.95 earned run average.
