Softball Falls in HAAC Tournament Semifinals

The Lindenwood softball team saw its season come to end Tuesday afternoon in the HAAC tournament semifinals. Central Methodist swept the Lady Lions in a best-of-three series for the second consecutive season.

Central Methodist's Chelsea Fuemmeler shut down Lindenwood in the opening game, surrendering just five hits a 4-0 win.

The Lady Eagles took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out RBI double. Lindenwood's best chance to score came in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded, but Kimberly Ruth grounded out to the third basemen to end the inning.

Central Methodist would extend the lead in the fifth with a run-scoring single, and moments later added two more on a RBI base hit to cap the scoring.

The Lady Lions squandered another run-scoring opportunity in the sixth with two on and only one out. However, Chelsea Landeck and Ruth were retired in order to end the frame.

In the seventh, Lindenwood would stage a late rally, but once again failed to produce with runners on.

Aubrey Moss took the loss, allowing four runs, one earned on six hits. She struck out five and walked two.

In game two, Lindenwood continued to struggle at the plate as the team stranded 10 on base, and lost 2-0.

The only runs came in the fourth on a RBI base hit and groundout. The Lady Lions left the bases loaded in the third, and stranded another two runners in the top-half of the seventh.

Rebecca Peddicord was handed the loss. She scattered four hits over six innings of work, but was tagged for the two runs. She walked three and struck out three.

Danielle Merli finished with a hit in her final game as a Lady Lion.

Lindenwood finishes the season at 32-21, and won the HAAC regular season conference championship with a 17-3 record.
