The Lindenwood women's soccer team took an early lead but Illinois Institute of Technology scored two unanswered goals to upend the Lady Lions 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The first half was dominated by the Lady Lions but they could only muster one goal, scored by Bailey Cody. Lindenwood outshot Illinois Tech 9-3 in the opening half and controlled most of the play.
The second half was a different story. Illinois Tech evened the game early when Megan Meeke buried a shot after a scramble in front of Lindenwood goalie Erin Sage. It didn't take the visitors long to take the lead as Emily Tilton scored just five minutes later.
With a 2-1 lead the Scarlet Hawks dropped back and played a defensive style game. The strategy paid off as the Lady Lions could not get the equalizer.
With the loss Lindenwood drops to 2-2 and will next take on Quincy University on September 15 on the road.
