The men and women's tennis programs competed at the ITA Regional Tournament this weekend in Bolivar, Mo., to wrap up their fall season.
On the women's side
Mariona Pinol teamed up with
Adela Slovakova but fell to the No. 8 seed of the doubles division 6-4, 6-3. In singles action, Pinol matched up against Faiga Schmidt from Southwest Baptist. Pinol put forth a gallant effort but lost in the end 6-1, 6-4. Slovakova also fell to Hillary Hicks 6-0, 6-2.
The Lions competed at the tournament having two teams in the doubles division.
Eric Tucoulou and
Rodrigo Traldi paired up for the while
William Hale and
Gauthier Schilling were the other duo. Tucoulou and Traldi lost in the opening round 6-3, 6-4 as Hale and Schilling fell to the No. 4 seed of the tournament 6-2, 6-2.
In singles action, Hale was blanked by Guilherme Narducci 6-0, 6-0 while Tucoulou fell to Leury Arias 7-5, 6-2. Traldi took a set from Carlos Olvera but would lose in the end 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. Schilling was the only Lion who advanced out of the first round of the tournament triumphing over Eric McCollough 6-2, 6-2. However he would fall to Kristof Kinal from Southwest Baptist 6-4, 6-3 in the second round.
The Lindenwood tennis team will be back in action in the spring of 2012. By that time the men and women's teams hope to be hosting their home matches at the new tennis courts on campus.
