Women's Volleyball Wins Locos Grill Transition Tournament

The Lindenwood women's volleyball team won the Locos Grill Transition Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Hyland Arena. The Lady Lions defeated Minot State in the championship match by scores of 25-21, 25-12, and 26-24.

Lindenwood had one of its best offensive performances of the year in the victory. The Lady Lions hit .358 for the match, including over .400 for the first two sets. The team had a 71 percent sideout percentage and recorded 46 kills.

The only set that went down to the wire was the final one. Lindenwood trailed 21-18 but came back to tie the game at 22. Minot State went up 23-22, but the Beavers made two straight errors to give Lindenwood its first match point. Minot State recorded a block to tie the set at 24, but a kill by Erin Anselman gave the Lady Lions their second match point. This time, Lindenwood won a long rally after a kill by Katie Weber.

Ellen Fandry ended her Lindenwood career with a memorable performance. She had 20 kills and just one error in 34 attempts for a .559 hitting percentage. She also had 13 digs, two service aces and a block. She was named the tournament MVP after having back-to-back 20-kill matches.

Also named to the all-tournament team was libero Kaila Schrimpf. She had a team-high 15 digs and helped Lindenwood have a 54-40 advantage in the dig category.

Anselman finished the match with 11 kills and she hit .348. Kelsey Biggs had a team-high 40 assists. Patsy Erb matched Fandry with two service aces in the match.

Lindenwood ends its transition season with a 27-13 overall record.
