The Lindenwood softball team split its doubleheader on Sunday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex. The Lady Lions fell to Williams Woods 6-3, but prevailed over Olivet Nazarene in the second game by a score of 5-4.
Against William Woods, Lindenwood dug itself a 2-0 hole in the third inning. But in the next inning, the Lady Lions tallied four singles, and three runs crossed home plate to give the home team the lead. The next half-inning was not kind to Lindenwood, as their defense struggled and William Woods put up three more runs to recapture the lead. The Owls would add another run in the seventh inning and hold on for the victory.
Leading the offense for Lindenwood were
Bailey Marshall, with two RBIs, and
Courtney Locke, with one RBI.
Emily Johnson was also a key contributor with two hits, one being a double, and a run scored. As a team, the Lady Lions managed three runs on seven hits, while giving up six runs on just five hits.
In the second game of the day, Lindenwood pulled off a comeback win against Olivet Nazarene.
The Lady Lions were down 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, when they exploded for four runs to snatch the lead from the Tigers. Lindenwood recorded four hits and eight batters came to the plate in that inning.
Megan Noe received the win, striking out five batters in five innings, while
Kimberleigh Griffin got the save, surrendering zero hits and striking out three batters in two innings of work. The only two Tigers to reach base against Griffin were the result of a walk and a hit batter.
Sophie Berman had an RBI double and a run scored, and Johnson tallied a two-run double.
Miranda Schlosser went 2-2 with a double and scored two runs in the victory.
The Lady Lions move to 2-4 after Sunday's games, and will head to Conway, Arkansas on Friday to take part in the Central Baptist Invitational.
