Lady Lions Pull Off Sweep of Harris-Stowe

The Lindenwood Lady Lions softball team swept Harris-Stowe in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Lou Brock Sports Complex, with Lindenwood winning by scores of 9-6 and 11-0.

The first game began with the Hornets scoring four runs on five hits in the top of the first inning. The Lady Lions were able to cut the deficit in half in their half of the inning, stringing together three consecutive singles and scored two runs. Both teams scored a run in the third.

Down two runs in the fourth, Lindenwood tallied five runs on six hits, including a three-run home run by Sophie Berman. Bailee Winkler hit a solo shot in the fifth and the Lady Lions held on to their lead as Aubrey Moss came on in relief to earn the win. Moss moved her record to 4-4 on the season as she threw nearly five innings striking out eight batters and surrendering only one run on four hits.

Lindenwood jumped on the Hornets right from the start in game two. The home team scored four runs in the first inning, behind a grand slam by Sophia Galati. In the second, the Lady Lions netted three more runs on three hits. And Lindenwood closed the game out by adding three more runs in the fourth, beating Harris-Stowe by the run-limit rule.

Heidi Schertzer got the win, only giving up one hit and shutting out the Hornets. Schertzer struck out six batters in five innings and did not walk a single opposing player.

Lindenwood brings its record to 9-9 overall, and will return to action on Sunday when it plays host to Graceland.
