The Lady Lions softball team opened up conference play with a two-game sweep of Graceland. Lindenwood squeaked out a 1-0 victory in game one, but cruised to an 8-0 win in the second game, winning in five innings.
Aubrey Moss dominated the Yellowjackets, striking out 11 batters in seven innings, while only giving up four hits and zero runs. Moss earned her fifth win of the season.
Offensively, the Lady Lions tallied six hits, with
Kim Ruth contributing two hits. The game-winning RBI came from
Sophie Berman in the bottom of the sixth inning, when she hit a double to right-center field, driving in
Macy Bross.
Game two featured another shutout by a Lindenwood pitcher, as
Heidi Schertzer pitched all five innings, while surrendering six hits and zero runs. Schertzer struck out six batters on her way to her fourth victory this year.
Bailee Winkler led the way offensively, hitting a home run to deep right field and driving in two runs. Berman was the only Lindenwood batter with two hits in the shortened game.
Sophia Galati and
Jessica Long both hit for triples in the contest. The Lady Lions scored three runs in each of the first two innings, and added a run in both of the next two innings to bring the game to an early end.
With the win, Lindenwood moves its overall record to 11-9 and 2-0 in conference. On Tuesday, the Lady Lions will travel to Lebanon, Illinois to take on McKendree in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
