Lady Lions Split Doubleheader with No. 22 MidAmerica Nazarene

The Lindenwood softball team split its doubleheader with No. 22 MidAmerica Nazarene on Tuesday night. The Lady Lions won the first game 12-4, but fell 8-0 to the nationally-ranked Pioneers in game two.

Lindenwood scored in the opening inning of the first game on a bases-loaded single by Kimberly Ruth, driving in Emily Johnson. Sophie Berman homered in the third to double the lead for the visitors.

In the fourth inning, Johnson and Courtney Locke both hit two-run home runs to give the Lady Lions a 6-0 lead. Johnson and Locke both hit their second homers of the game in the sixth inning to add to the advantage. The long-ball trend continued as Bailee Winkler and Sophia Galati smacked homers in the seventh, and Lindenwood went on to win the game 12-4.

Aubrey Moss received the win on the mound for the Lady Lions, pitching five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out six. Megan Noe pitched two innings in relief, conceding just one run on two hits.

Four Lady Lions registered three hits in the victory, as Lindenwood out-hit MidAmerica 16-8 in game one.

Game two did not go as well for the visitors, with Lindenwood losing 8-0 to the Pioneers.

The Lady Lions only managed two hits against one of the best pitchers in the NAIA, and MidAmerica Nazarene recorded 14 hits against Lindenwood pitchers.

Heidi Schertzer got the start, lasting just two innings and taking the loss, but conceded just two runs on five hits and struckout three batters.

Johnson kept her hot-hitting going, posting the only two hits for Lindenwood in the loss.

Lindenwood (25-21, 11-5) will continue on the road when it travels to Liberty, Missouri to face William Jewell in another conference doubleheader.
