The Lindenwood men's and women's swimming and diving teams saw much success this past weekend at the Delta State Christmas Invite in Cleveland, Miss. Setting a new NCAA Division II record in the 100 backstroke was sophomore
Krzysztof Jankiewicz who clocked in at 46.61 in the prelims on the morning of day two.
Lindenwood divers dominated the competition on both the men's and women's side. On day one, Brady Williams,
David Cochran,
Schyler Hohenberger finished in the top three in the 1m dive all finishing within 40 points of each other. The next day was the women's turn to finish in the top three as
Carleen Wayne,
Ashley Holloway, and
Allie Steinhauser placed 1-2-3 in their respective 1m competition.
Alecia McGillivray won the 500 free with a time of 4:47.32, nine seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. She also placed first in the 400 IM, ahead of
Erin Sutton,
Ewa Dymarek, and
Trisha Ishikawa. The junior also won the 1650 free with a time of 16:34.40.
Felix Eigel won the 200 IM, just edging out teammates Jankiewicz,
Mateusz Pacholczyk, and
Joseph Martin. He also took first in the 400 IM with a time of 3:51.98.
Stealing the show was Jankiewicz, who set a new Division II record in the 100 back with a time of 46.61 in the prelims.
Dymarek kept up her consistent marks, finishing second in the 100 breast just .42 seconds behind the winner from the host school. She also finished with the 200 IM crown finishing ahead of teammates
Audra Thornton, Sutton, and
Kate Stauffer.
The 100 fly event was owned by the Lindenwood men. Finishing first through seventh were:
Kian Quigley,
Cristian Vasquez,
Austin Olivares,
Carlos Cabral Xavier,
Ross Watson,
Kevin McGowan, and
Spencer Thomas. They all finished within five seconds of each other.
Hannah Vinyard led the pack in the 200 fly for the women, winning by just below four seconds.
Abby Maricle finished second, just four seconds behind Vinyard. Vinyard also won the women's 200 free with a time of 1:53.17, and ahead of
Bethany Steffes,
Morgan Fischer, Thornton, and
Daniela Davila Gallego.
Sylwester Borowicz-Skoneczny took home the 500 free crown for the men finishing with a time of 4:27.64 in the finals.
Gustavo Silva Santa placed second, while Olivares finished in third.
Silva Santa didn't stop at second place, but finished first in the 1000 free with Borowicz-Skoneczny timing in at third, just four seconds in between the teammates.
Kyleigh Troxel also swam well for the women, finishing third in the 500 free. Troxel won the 1000 free with a time of 10:09.62, along with finishing second in the 1650 free.
Overall, the men scored 1153.5 points, ahead of Delta State (1014.5), Lindenwood-Belleville (769.5), and Birmingham-Southern College (727.5).
The women won by an even larger amount, settling for 1129 points, and ahead of Delta State (1026.5), Birmingham-Southern College (767.5), and Lindenwood-Belleville (424).
The men's and women's teams get a month-long break over the holiday season, next competing at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo. on January 12 at 4 p.m. central time.
