The Lindenwood swimming and diving teams celebrated 13 seniors prior to the dual meet with Washington University on Friday night in Edwardsville, Ill. Unfortunately, both the men and women fell to the Bears in their respective competitions. The men lost by a score of 127-96, while the women fell 140-103.
Kamila Kunka began the meet in the win column with a victory in the 1000 free, edging out a pair of Washington swimmers. Kunka also finished second in the 100 free, just .17 seconds behind the winner.
Alecia McGillivray joined Kunka with a win of her own in the 500 free, touching the wall in 5:10.45.
Erika Garcia placed second in the 500 free and fourth in the 1000 free, respectively.
Ewa Dymarek earned nine points for her team with a victory in the 100 breast, finishing with a time of 1:06.44.
The ladies also won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:39.54.
Abby Maricle anchored foursome with a lap time of 24.78, while
Kinga Lesinska,
Bethany Steffes, and
Kate Stauffer led the women to 11 points for the event.
Vinyard added a pair of second-place finishes, one in the 200 free and the other in the 100 fly. Werkema placed second in the 1m dive and third in the 3m, while
Ashley Holloway finished fourth in the 1m and second in the 3m.
For the men,
Blake Logan and Borowicz-Skoneczny placed first and second, respectively, in the 1000 free, earning a combined 13 points. Logan added a third-place finish in the 100 back, while Borowicz-Skoneczny proved victorious in the 500 free.
Cristian Vasquez placed second in the event after finishing third in the 200 IM.
Eigel and Silva Santa followed that performance up with a one-two punch in the 200 free. Eigel touched the wall less than two seconds before Silva Santa, posting his second-fastest lap during the final stretch.
Kian Quigley added a win for the men in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 50.73, while
Alex Leff won the 100 free.
The men and women fall to 1-1 in dual meets on the season after picking up a victory last weekend against Missouri-St. Louis. Divers will be sent to Allendale, Mich. next Friday to compete in the Grand Valley State Diving Invite hoping to reach better marks to earn a spot in nationals. The next team competition will be February 15 in Cleveland, Miss. when it competes in its first New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference meet.
