Shotgun sports finished second in the Division I School High Overall competition at the 2022 ACUI Collegiate Clay Target National Championships March 23-26 at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas.

The Lions claimed four of the six team titles and hit a total of 2,852 out of 3,000 targets but came up just 10 short of Texas A & M.

Gigi Mitchell claimed the Women's American Trap High Overall (HOA) Championship, and sophomore
Reece Sparks won the Individual Combined Skeet crown.Â

Klayton McGee and
Trace Hatfield both shot perfect 100's.

Morgan Baine,
Sam Korbs, and
Ethan Boyer all tied with scores of 99 to contribute to a team score of 497/500, one of the highest ever in the trap event in ACUI Nationals history. That was good enough for the Lions to win the team event. Later in the day, Hatfield and McGee entered a shoot-off for the Men's Individual Trap title. McGee ran the next 100 targets to claim the trophy. Mitchell also entered a shoot-off for the Women's Individual Trap title and she ran her next 50 targets to claim victory.Â

In American Doubles Trap,
Wyatt Newby (97), Korbs (97), Boyer (96), McGee (96), and
Noah Gouge (96) shot a collective 482/500 to take the Division I team title for the event. Additionally, McGee came in fourth overall for the Combined Trap events with 196/200.

In American Skeet, Sparks (100), Blankenship (99),
Konnor Vohs (99), Boyer (98), Baine (98), and
Christian Jackowski (98) collectively shot a 494/500 to finish second in the Division I team standings, just three targets behind the Aggies. Sparks won the individual national title in the Combined Skeet event with a score of 199/200. This included his 100 straight in Skeet and 99 In Doubles Skeet.

The Lions won the Doubles Skeet event, with Sparks (99), Blankenship (97), Tollefson (97), Vohs (97), and Korbs (97) shooting 487/500 to edge Schreiner University by one target.

Lindenwood also won the team Super Sporting event with a total of 467/500, besting Texas A & M by four targets.
Tristan Stubbs (95), Blankenship (94), Vohs (94), Hatfield (93), and Tollefson (91) all shot outstanding scores to help the Lions cause. Stubbs tied for third overall with his score of 95.

Lindenwood came in second in the Division I Sporting Clays event with a score of 425/500. Korbs (87), Stubbs (86), Blankenship (86), Hatfield (83), and Boyer (83) contributed to the Lions total.

Lindenwood had several notable finishes in the individual HOA standings. Blankenship took fifth in the Men's HOA category with 565/600. Korbs (564) took seventh, Vohs (559) finished 15
th, and Boyer (557) took 18
th. These Lions places in the 97
th percentile, besting over 500 other collegiate shooters. In the Women's HOA competition,
Casey Byrd (531) finished sixth, followed by
Chloe Turasky (528) in seventh, both finishing in the 96
th percentile ahead of over 140 other females.
