Volleyball Sweeps Division II Maryville

The No. 25 Lindenwood volleyball team swept Division II Maryville University, 3-0, Thursday evening. Ellen Fandry and Kelsey Jo Vogler each netted double digit kills to spark the Lady Lions, who won by scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-10.

In game one, Vogler provided the offense early recording two kills to help Lindenwood take a slim 11-10 lead. Krista Yoder, Fandry and Vogler ignited a 10-1 run with consecutive kills and the Saints would never recover.

Kelsey Kennedy and Vogler each recorded two kills apiece to give Lindenwood a quick 10-8 lead in the second set. From there, the Lady Lions would convert 13 of the next 16 points to take a comfortable 23-11 lead. Fandry converted the final point, forcing a decisive third game.

The Lady Lions raced out to an early 5-3 lead in the final set behind a kill and an ace from Fandry. Yoder recorded the next point and Lindenwood put the match away with a 16-3 run.

Fandry recorded her tenth double-double of the year with 10 kills and 10 digs. She also had a service ace. Vogler had 10 kills and Kennedy and Yoder added seven apiece. Kelsey Biggs tallied 23 assists. Defensively, Alyssa Showers netted 11 digs and Patricia Erb chipped in with nine. Victoria Krause led the team in blocks with four and Yoder had three.

The Lady Lions (25-8, 8-0) will have the weekend off and will return to action next Tuesday at home against MidAmerica Nazarene at 7:00 p.m.
