One year ago the Benedictine Ravens beat the Lindenwood Lady Lions soccer team in the finals of the HAAC tournament to deny the Lady Lions a HAAC Championship and a bid to the NAIA national tournament. After an up-and-down regular season, the Lady Lions got their revenge on the Ravens in the 2009 HAAC tournament with a 2-1 upset win.
The game started with the Lady Lions dominating the play in the first half. In the 23rd minute sophomore
Lindsay Shea would score her 11th goal of the year with help from
Ashley Tankersley to give Lindenwood a 1-0 lead. The goal would be the only one of the half and the Lindenwood would take that 1-0 lead into the half.
After the break, both teams played a very defensive half but Lindenwood would break through the defense to take a big 2-0 lead on Shea's second goal of the game. Benedictine would not go quietly. The Ravens would cut the lead to one in the 69th minute with a goal from Kelsey Scheiber.
That would be as close as the Ravens would get as Lady Lion goalie
Jessica Morelli and the defense was able to protect the lead.
The win against the Ravens was the second of the year for the Lady Lions. Now Lindenwood will travel to Lamoni, Iowa to take on the tournament's no. 1 seed Graceland on Wednesday night.
