Former Lindenwood football player Brian Schaefering played in his first regular season NFL game yesterday for the Cleveland Browns.
Schaefering made one tackle, stopping All Pro running back LaDainian Tomlinson in the final play of the third quarter. The underdog Browns ended up falling in the game by just a touchdown to the San Diego Chargers by a 30-23 score.
Schaefering was signed by the Browns as a free agent in 2008 but was waived at the end of training camp. Later that season, he was signed to the New York Jets practice squad. Schaefering was re-signed by the Browns at the beginning of this season and was activated from the practice squad last Wednesday.
At Lindenwood, Schaefering was one of the defensive leaders of the 2007 HAAC Championship squad. He led the team with 6.5 sacks, and also collected 37 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick.
