Lady Lions Fall to Visiting Avila

The Lindenwood women's basketball team dropped a HAAC contest to Avila on Monday night by a score of 86-67.

The visiting Lady Eagles opened the game on a 14-4 run fueled by three three-pointers. The Avila lead would quickly balloon to 25-8, but the Lady Lions would respond with a 15-5 spurt to cut the deficit to 10 with eight minutes remaining in the half. The road team would outscore Lindenwood 20-7 the rest of the way to take a 50-27 lead into the halftime break.

The difference in the first half was the three-point shooting of Avila. The Lady Eagles were nine-of-15 from long distance and shot 53 percent from the field overall.

In the second half, Avila cooled off, but eventually stretched its lead to 31 with less than 10 minutes remaining and won going away.

Avila would hit 12 three-pointers in all compared to just three for Lindenwood. The Lady Eagles also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Lady Lions 47-28.

Christina Edwards had a team-high 27 points and six rebounds. Kelly Albers was the only other Lady Lion in double-figures with 11 points. Destini Wilson chipped in with nine points.

Lindenwood (4-10, 2-4) will travel to Central Methodist this Thursday for a conference matchup.
