Lady Lions Win on the Road at Benedictine

When Monday night's women's basketball game started, the Benedictine Lady Ravens took a 20-19 lead with 7:53 to play in the first half against the Lindenwood Lady Lions. It looked like this game was going the same way they previous three losses had gone for Lindenwood. But on this night the Lady Lions battled back to upend Benedictine, 71-68.

At the 7:30 mark the Lady Lions were trailing by a point and Christina Edwards hit a pair of free throws to give Lindenwood their first lead of the night. From that point on the Lady Lions would not give the lead back to Benedictine.

Lindenwood would go into the locker room with a 41-29 lead. The twelve point difference was the largest they have held all season. The Lady Lions shot 48 percent in the first half compared to the Lady Ravens 32 percent.

The second half was much of the same as the opening half as the Lady Lions would continue to grow their lead and shoot the ball very well. The lead would grow all the way up to 17 with over 17 minutes to play in the game. Benedictine would chip away at the lead tying up the game at 68 with just 28 seconds to go in the game.

After the Lady Ravens knotted up the game Cassie Williams regained the lead once again with a layup. Junior forward Christina Edwards had the biggest defensive play of the game forcing a turnover and a steal to give the ball back to the Lady Lions. Williams would be fouled with 20 seconds to go and would hit one of two free throws to extend the lead to three.

Lady Raven point guard Kaela Stratman had a chance to tie the game but her three pointer was off the mark and the Lady Lions would win their fifth game of the season.

Leading the way for Lindenwood was Gina Ferrer who scored a career-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting and was 6-of-8 from behind the arc. Three other Lady Lions scored in double figures led by Edwards who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Casey Junge and Abby Schultenhenrich both pitched in with 10 points apiece.

Lindenwood would shoot exactly the same in both the first and the second half, 12-of-15 for a 48 percent clip. Behind the arc is where the Lady Lions excelled at shooting 9-of-14 for 64 percent.

The win improved the Lady Lions' overall record to 5-12 and conference record to 3-6. Now Lindenwood will have a few days off until Saturday when they take on the William Jewell Cardinals at home.
