The No. 24 Lindenwood Lions soccer team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as the Lions beat Avila 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium.
Just two minutes into the game Victor Buchim scored his second goal of the year to give the Lions the 1-0 lead. Lindenwood would tack on another goal in the 16th minute after Boban Simonvic blasted a shot just inside the penalty area. Avila would score a goal late in the first half to cut the lead to 2-1 at the break.
The only scoring in the second half came from the Lions and Tony Young. Young scored his first goal as a Lion and the team would hold on to the 3-1 win.
Victor Francoz started in the net for the Lions and surrendered just one goal. The Lions outshot the Eagles 12-4.
With the win the Lions improve their record to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Up next for the Lions is a home game against William Jewell next Saturday.
