Lady Lions Win the ACHA Showcase Tournament Championship

The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team won the ACHA Showcase tournament championship Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 victory against Rhode Island in Chicago, Ill.

Kali Frederick gave the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead after the first with a goal at the four minute mark. Lisa Moreau scored early in the second to push the advantage to 2-0. Rhode Island trimmed the lead to one in the third, but Kelsey Talbot found the back of the net midway through the frame to put the game out of reach.

Rebecca Bernet recorded 29 saves to earn the win in net, and Moreau finished with a pair of assists.

Lindenwood wrapped up a perfect 3-0 record in pool play with a 9-1 win over host Robert Morris Saturday afternoon.

Samantha Redick and Miranda Schrock both scored power play goals in the first period to give Lindenwood a 2-0 lead after one. Early in the second, Robert Morris cut the deficit to one with a power play score of its own, but the Lady Lions would respond with six unanswered goals.

Talbot, Kyley Engstrom, Schrock, Allysson Arcibal, Shea Crawford, and Shannon Murphy all found the back of the net in the frame. Brett Lobreau added the Lady Lions' third power play score midway through the third period to cap the scoring.

Bernet stopped 22 shots to earn the win in goal, and Arcibal collected a team-high four assists. Lobreau added two helpers. The Lady Lions finished three of five on the power play.

Lindenwood defeated Minnesota 2-1 Friday afternoon to improve to 2-0 in pool play.

Both of the Lady Lions' goals came in the first period. Redick scored midway through the frame to put Lindenwood up 1-0. With less than three minutes remaining in the period Arcibal scored on the power play to make it 2-0.

Minnesota's lone goal came late in the second period. Bernet earned the win in goal stopping 20 shots. The Lady Lions were one for five on power play opportunities, and killed off all seven chances the Gophers had.

Lindenwood shut out Buffalo 6-0 in its opening contest of the ACHA Showcase.

Six different Lady Lions scored in the winning effort. Ashley Rebeck scored the go ahead goal in the opening minute of the game, and Engstrom added another score minutes later.

Leading 2-0 at the first intermission, Lindenwood tacked on two more tallies in the second. Both Lobreau and Crawford scored for the Lady Lions in the period. Crawford's goal came on the power play.

In the third, Kendra Ganchar and Arcibal lit the lamp to complete the scoring. Arcibal's score was the second power play goal of the day for Lindenwood.

Bernet stopped all eight shots she faced to earn her second shutout of the season, and Moreau finished with two assists.

Lindenwood (13-1-1) will return home next weekend to host Ohio State.
