Lady Lions Fall on the Road to Baker

The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team traveled to Baldwin City, Kan. to take on the Baker Wildcats Saturday afternoon and fell in a hard fought game 71-66.

The opening 20 minutes was back-and-forth with neither team leading by more than five points. As the first half ended the game would be knotted up at 31.

The second half started with the Lady Lions scoring the first two points and taking the lead but that would be the last time Lindenwood would hold the advantage. Baker scored the next eight points to take a six point advantage with just over 15 minutes to play. The home team pushed the lead to as many as 10 but couldn't put the Lady Lions away.

Lindenwood chipped away at the lead cutting it to two with one minute to play. After Baker extended the lead back to four, Kelly Ablers would connect on a pair of free throws to make it a two point game. With 33 seconds to go Baker's Aubree Gustin would be issued a technical foul. Abby Schultenhenrich headed to the free throw line to try and tie the score. The senior made one of two to cut the lead to one.

The Lady Lions  would foul the Wildcats and Courtney Goodrum made both free throws to give the home team a three point lead. On Lindenwood's next possession Sarah Schnieders was fouled but missed both free throws. Baker would finish off the Lady Lions with two more free throws and held on for the win.

Lindenwood shot 46 percent from the field but was outrebounded 38-20 which included 16-8 on the offense boards.

Schnieders led the way for the Lady Lions scoring 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Schultenhenrich chipped in with 14 points and Albers scored 12 to go along with six rebounds. Morgan Harrington also scored nine points and Caroline Bourlioux scored eight.

With the loss the Lady Lions drop to 5-5 and 1-1 on conference play. Up next for Lindenwood is a road game Thursday night against Evangel.
