Lady Lions Win Third Straight Conference Game

The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team scored a huge conference road win on Monday night when the team upended the Avila Eagles 68-66 in Kansas City, Mo. The win is the team's third straight conference win, the first time that has happened since the 2005-06 season.

Lindenwood survived for the win even though Avila shot over 58 percent from the field compared to the Lady Lions 45 percent. There were nine ties and nine lead changes in the game.

Both teams began the contest making the game's first 17 of 18 shots. The hot shooting led to the Eagles taking a six point lead late in the first half. Lindenwood would cut into the lead and tie the score with just over four minutes to play. The rest of the opening half stayed close with the Eagles holding a two-point lead.

The second half started with the Lady Lions putting together a 22-9 run to surge to an eight point lead. But the home team did not give in, answering the Lady Lions big run with an 11-1 run of its own. The Eagles took a two-point lead with just over two minutes to play.

With the Lady Lions trailing by two, Christine Edwards hit a free throw to cut the lead to one followed by a Sarah Schnieders' steal and basket to give the Lady Lions the lead. After the Lady Lions took the lead they would never relinquish it.

For the third straight game the Lady Lions were led by Morgan Harrington, who scored 24 points on five of nine shooting from the field and 11 for 12 from the free throw line. Freshman Caroline Bourlioux chipped in with 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Kelly Albers also scored in double-figures with 10 points while grabbing six rebounds. Edwards led the team in rebounds with seven. The Lady Lions outrebounded the Eagles 28-24 including a 10-5 margin on the offensive glass.

With the win, the Lady Lions improve their overall record to 8-6 and their conference mark to 4-2. The Lady Lions will be back at home on Thursday night against Central Methodist.
