The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team continued its season-long winning streak after upending the William Jewell Cardinals 71-47. Lindenwood's winning streak has now reached six games.
Lindenwood dominated the game from the opening tip, holding a 33-13 lead at the end of the first half. The 13 points the Cardinals scored was the lowest total for any opponent in a half against the Lady Lions this season.
The second half was much of the same for the visitors, as they outscored the Cardinals 38-34. For the game the Lady Lions shot 54 percent from the field, compared to William Jewell's 28 percent. William Jewell also struggled from behind the three-point line, shooting just one of 15.
Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Kelly Albers, who scored 18 points and also led the team in rebounds with seven. Sarah Schnieders pitched in with 15 on five of six shooting from the field. Christina Edwards scored 11 and Abby Schulthenrich scored 10. Lindenwood outrebounded the Cardinals by a 39-26 margin.
With the win the Lady Lions improved their overall record to 11-6 and 7-2 in conference play. Lindenwood is now in second place by themselves in the HAAC, and will take on the Benedictine Ravens Monday night at the Hyland Arena.
