The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team had its six game winning-streak snapped Monday night after a 69-56 loss to the Benedictine Ravens.
Benedictine employed a press most of the game, which flustered the Lady Lions' offense into a season-high 26 turnovers, including 19 in the first half.
Lindenwood did start the game taking a 22-13 advantage with 7:04 to play capped off by a Sarah Schnieders' jump shot, but that was the last time the Lady Lions hit a field goal for the rest of the half. The only points the rest of the half for the Lady Lions came from two free throws by Schnieders. The Ravens closed the half on a 13-2 run to take a four point advantage into the half.
Whatever head coach Tony Francis said at halftime to his team seemed to work, as the Lady Lions came out and went on a 9-3 run to take a three-point lead.
For the next eight minutes, the teams traded the lead back-and-forth seven times. At the seven minute mark, Benedictine connected on back-to-back lay-ups, followed by consecutive threes and another lay-up, to erupt for an 11-point lead.
Abby Schultenhenrich finally stopped the bleeding for the home team with a free throw to cut the lead to 10, but that was as close as the Lady Lions got. Benedictine made its final nine of 11 shots to roll to the win.
Two Lady Lions scored in double-figures led by Morgan Harrington's 14. Kelly Albers pitched in with 11 points and seven rebounds. Schultenhenrich scored nine and Schnieders added eight points. Christina Edwards led the team in rebounds with nine.
Lindenwood shot 40 percent from the field for the game, which included the team attempting just 18 shots in the first half, compared to Benedictine's 31. The Lady Lions also shot 40 percent from behind the three-point line and 72 percent from the free-throw line.
With the loss, the Lady Lions drop their overall record to 11-7 and their conference mark to 7-3. Lindenwood will go on the road Thursday for a game against the Culver-Stockton Wildcats.
