The Lindenwood women's volleyball team split a pair of matches against Great Lakes Valley Conference members on Tuesday night. The Lady Lions defeated Rockhurst in five sets, but were swept by William Jewell in the day's second match.
Kelsey Biggs became the latest Lindenwood setter to surpass 3,000 career assists during the William Jewell contest. She had 39 assists in the two matches, and now has 3,008 for her career.
Momentum went back-and-forth throughout the Rockhurst match with Lindenwood winning 25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 17-25, and 18-16. The Lady Lions won the first two sets, before Rockhurst won sets three and four. In the final set, Lindenwood jumped out to a 7-1 lead. The Hawks came back again to force extra points, but the Lady Lions were finally able to score two straight to break a 16-16 tie.
Emma Brydels led Lindenwood with a triple-double of 10 kills, 38 assists, and 10 digs.
Erin Anselman had 20 kills,
Ellen Fandry had 15, and
Katie Weber put down 11 shots.
Kristy Dreisewerd just missed double-figure kills with nine, but she had the biggest point with the match-winning kill in the fifth set.
Biggs had 27 assists in that match and
Kaila Schrimpf led the team wtih 30 digs. Weber had a team-high five blocks.
In the second match, William Jewell won 30-28, 25-16, and 25-16. Lindenwood controlled the first set and had seven set points. It could not convert any of those points though and the Cardinals stole the set after they won 11 out of the last 15 points. William Jewell then took big leads in the final two sets as it completed the sweep. The Lady Lions made too many errors in the match with 21 attack errors, 10 service errors, and six receiving errors.
Weber and Fandry each had 10 kills in the match, and Brydels led the team with 23 assists. Anselman and Schrimpf each had 12 digs, and Dreisewerd had two blocks.
Lindenwood goes to 17-12 on the season after the day's results. The Lady Lions will have Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. contest against William Woods.
