Lady Lions Start Quick But Fall to Kentucky Wesleyan

Box Score The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team lost its first road game of the season, 74-66 to Kentucky Wesleyan on Wednesday night in Owensboro, Ky.

Lindenwood jumped out to a quick start, going on a 7-0 run in the first five minutes of the game. The Lady Lions continued to lead for most of the first half until the nine minute mark when the momentum took a major shift. Kentucky Wesleyan exploded and went on a 25-9 run over the next eight minutes, and led by 10. The halftime lead was eight for the home team.

The second half, started promising for Lindenwood. Cassie Bluemner made a three, followed by a Caroline Bourlioux layup, and capped off by a Morgan Harrington three-pointer to cut the lead down to two. But the Lady Lions could not sustain the pressure and that was as close as Lindenwood got. Kentucky Wesleyan weathered the early storm from the Lady Lions, and grew its lead in the second half to as many as 16.

For the second straight game, Lindenwood turned the ball over 20 plus times. The Lady Lions outrebounded the Panthers 37-32 and shot 43 percent from the field.

Bluemner led the way for Lindenwood scoring a career-high 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from the three-point line. Bourlioux scored 12 points and dished out a team-high seven assists. Harrington pitched in with 10 points and Meagan Hittle compiled four steals.

The loss drops the Lions overall record to 0-2. Up next is a game against the University of Illinois-Springfield Tuesday night at the Hyland Arena.
