Men's Basketball Wins First Game of Alaska Invitational

Box Score The Lindenwood men's basketball team won its third game of the season Thursday night, 88-84 over the Tiffin Dragons in Fairbanks, Alaska at the Alaska Invitational.

Lindenwood jumped out to a quick start scoring the game's first five points, and going on 13-2 run to start the game. The lead was at 11 just five minutes into the contest.

Tiffin did not go away though. After trailing by 11, the Dragons chipped away at the lead. At the 14 minute mark, Tiffin started connecting on some long-range shots. The Dragons made four straight three-point attempts and tied the score at 20 with nine minutes to play.

The momentum shifted to the Dragons and they extended their lead to five. Alex Bazzell stopped the bleeding for a moment with a three to cut the lead to two. But the only problem was that Tiffin again went on another three-point string. The Dragons made threes on three straight possessions to push the lead back up to 11.

With under a minute to play in the first half, Lindenwood cut the lead to eight and at the buzzer Bazzell hit a long three to only trail by five.

The second half started, with Tiffin continuing to lead until the 14:53 mark when the Lions took their first lead since early in the game after a Bazzell layup. The two teams traded the lead four times until the eight minute mark when Lindenwood took control.

The Lions extended the lead up to eight after going 6-for-7 from the line in a two minute span. The Dragons got the lead down to three with under a minute to play, but two more free throws from Kramer Soderberg sealed the game.

Lindenwood shot 44 percent from the field, 72 percent from the free-throw line, but just 28 percent from behind the three-point arc. The Lions outrebounded Tiffin 44-36 and forced 12 turnovers.

Bazzell led the way scoring 25 points including an 11-for-13 night from the charity stripe. Garrett Reeg had his best night of the year, with 14 points and nine rebounds. Cody Sorenson and Richie Thompson pitched in with 10 and 11 points respectively. Efkan Eren led the Lions on the boards with 11.

With the win, the Lions stay perfect at 3-0. Lindenwood will be back on the court Friday night against Southwest Baptist.
