Lucky 13

The Lindenwood women's volleyball team played its 13th five-set match of the season on Thursday night in St. Louis. The Lady Lions emerged victorious over Missouri Baptist by scores of 15-25, 25-16, 28-26, 19-25, and 15-9.

The team's improvement during the 2011 season was shown throughout the match. Nearly two months ago, the Lady Lions hit just .065 when they were swept by the Spartans at Hyland Arena. Lindenwood got revenge this time by hitting .299 in an offensive shootout.

In the deciding fifth set, Lindenwood allowed just one point while Missouri Baptist was serving. That point cut Lindenwood's lead to 10-7, but the Lady Lions closed out the game on a 5-2 run. In that deciding game, Emma Brydels led the team with three kills, three assists, a block, and a service ace.

Brydels led Lindenwood with an all-around line of 14 kills, 24 assists, eight digs, and two service aces. She hit .379 for the match. Kristy Dreisewerd and Erin Anselman both had 13 kills and hit over .300. Ellen Fandry finished with 10 kills.

Other team leaders included Kelsey Biggs having 33 assists, Kaila Schrimpf recording 19 digs, and Taylor Holtmeyer blocking five shots.

Lindenwood improves to 23-13 with the victory. The Lady Lions are off for a week until the season-ending Locos Grill Transition Tournament at Hyland Arena on Nov. 10-12 in St. Charles.
