Men's Basketball Finally Plays at Home

Storyline

Finally, the Lindenwood Lions will make their first appearance at home. After playing eight games away from St. Charles, the Lions will play their next two out of three games at Hyland Arena.

The week gets started with the team's home opener against Concordia Seminary. Next, the team will travel to Lincoln University for a weekend game, before wrapping up the three-game stretch with another home game. This time the NAIA's No. 19 Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders will be the opponents.  

Last Time Out
The Lindenwood Lions travelled to Ohio for a three-game stretch and finished the trip with a perfect 3-0 record. To start off the weekend, the Lions upended Urbana 86-65.

Kramer Soderberg led the way for the Lions scoring 18 points. Alex Bazzell also scored in double figures with 15 points. The Lions shot 47 percent from behind the three-point line and just below 50 percent from the field.  The Lindenwood defense held Urbana to just 33 percent shooting.

The weekend concluded with the Ben Waterman Central State Classic in Wilberforce, Ohio. In game one, the Lions outlasted the host school, Central State, 95-83.

Four out of the Lions five starters scored in double figures led by Soderberg's 28 points. Bazzell chipped in with 17 points. Lindenwood attempted 32 free throws in the game.

To wrap up the weekend, the Lions took on Wilberforce. It was all Lindenwood from the opening tip. The Lions outscored the Bulldogs 53-34 in the opening half. Late in the second half, Lindenwood's lead reached as high as of 47.

Soderberg once again led the team in scoring with 21 points. Michael Boos had his best game of the season scoring 16 points off the bench.

Soderberg Tearing it Up
Kramer Soderberg has continued his early season success. He has led the Lions in scoring every game but one. The senior from St. Charles is leading the team in scoring with 21.6 points, and assists with 30. He is shooting 54 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free-throw line.

He was named to the All-Tournament team at the Alaskan Invitational and tournament MVP at the McKendree Classic.

Steady Bazzell
In all of the Lions games this season, Alex Bazzell has scored at least 12 points. He is averaging 16.3 points and his highest scoring night came against Tiffin, when he poured in 25.

Quick Start
The first half has been very kind to the Lions in their first five games. The team is averaging 43.6 first-half points, which is more than 10 points a game more than its opponents.

Playing Extra Time
In just eight games this season, the Lions have already played in three overtimes games. It is already the most the team has played in the past five years. Lindenwood is 2-1 in overtime.

Charity Stripe
The Lions have been frequent visitors to the free-throw line this season. The team is averaging 31 free-throw attempts a game compared to its opponents who are taking just 18.

As a team, Lindenwood is shooting 76 percent from the free-throw line. Bazzell is leading the team with 71 attempts and has made 80 percent of his shots.

High Scoring Attack
Lindenwood has been pouring in the points this season. As a team, the Lions are  averaging 89.6 points a game. The team hit the century mark in its last contest against Wilberforce.

Road Warriors
The beginning of the 2011-12 season has been spent on the road for the Lions. Through the first eight games, Lindenwood has yet to play at home. The Lions have three more road games before finally playing in front of the home crowd. When the team hits the Hyland Arena floor on Dec. 13 it will have played eight road games.

Dominating the Boards
The Lions have outrebounded their opponents in all eight games this season. The team is averaging six more rebounds than its opponents a game.

Ressel Making a Name
Newcomer Tyler Ressel has made a name for himself this season. The sophomore is averaging 9.0 points a game and is shooting 62 percent from the three-point line and 100 percent from the free-throw line.

Consistency
For all eight games this season, the Lions have used the same starting lineup.   The group of Soderberg, Thompson, Bazzell, Reeg, and Eren are scoring 69 points of the team's average of 89.

Home Court Advantage
The Hyland Arena floor has been very good to the Lions since Brad Soderberg took over. In his two seasons at the helm, the team has compiled a record of 28-4 at home. In 2009-10, Lindenwood was 13-1, followed by a 15-3 record last season.

Century Mark
The 100 points the Lions scored against Wilberforce was the first time the team had scored 100 since 2008.

About Concordia Seminary
The Concordia Seminary Preachers are making their second consecutive trip to the Hyland Arena. The Preachers are coached by Tim Saleska.  

About Lincoln
Lincoln enters the week with a record of 1-6. Before taking on the Lions, the Blue Tigers will play Central Missouri.

Lincoln is averaging 63.6 points on offense and surrendering 79.1 points on defense. The Blue Tigers are being outrebounded by over five rebounds a game.

The team is led by three guards who average over 10 points. Clifton Flemming leads the way with 13 points a game. Jimmy Payton and Trent Littlejohn are both averaging 12 points.

John Redmond is in his second season at the helm at Lincoln.

About Lindsey Wilson
Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders are ranked No. 19 in the NAIA and have a record of 7-3. The Blue Raiders upset the defending national champions, Pikeville, earlier in the season. The team will play two games before they make the trip to St. Charles.

Lindsey Wilson averages 77.9 points on offense and surrenders 68.2 on defense. The team has struggled on the road losing all three games away from home.

The Blue Raiders are led by Chase Spreen and Kalen Kimberland, who both average 15 points a game. Spreen is also the team leader in rebounds with 5.2.

Paul Peck is in his 10th year at the helm of the basketball program. He has compiled a record 210-95.
