Storyline
After having a week off of competition the Lady Lions will play three games in five days. After falling in a hard fought game against NCAA Division I Southeast Missouri State, Lindenwood will take on Harris-Stowe to start the week.
Following the game against the Hornets, the Lady Lions will travel to Olathe, Kan. for the MidAmerica Nazarene Classic where they will take on two of the top 26 NAIA teams in the country.
Lindenwood will start the classic off with a game against William Woods. The Owls are the first team outside of the top 25. To finish off the weekend the Lady Lions will do battle against the NAIA's No. 20 ranked, Robert Morris Eagles.
Last Time Out
The Lindenwood Lady Lions travelled to NCAA Division I Southeast Missouri State last Saturday night and fell 66-56 in a hard fought game.
Lindenwood started off the game making its first two shots and jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. Unfortunately, that was the last time the Lady Lions were in front. Southeast came right back and answered Lindenwood's run with a 9-2 spurt to take the lead.
The Redhawks extended their lead to as many as eight in the opening half. Lindenwood closed the first 20 minutes scoring the final three points to cut the halftime deficit to just five.
Southeast Missouri scored the first basket of the second half, then the Lady Lions went on a 5-0 run capped off by a
Morgan Harrington three-pointer to cut the lead to two. Southeast Missouri built the lead back up to nine on three separate occasions but Lindenwood did not go away.
The Lady Lions got within three two separate times but could not get over the hump. With just over five minutes to play, the home team went on a 14-3 run to put the game away.
Lindenwood shot just 34 percent from the field, but did shoot 43 percent from behind the three-point line. The Redhawks dominated the boards outrebounding the Lady Lions 43-33, including 16 offensive rebounds to just nine for Lindenwood.
Morgan Harrington had her best night of the season scoring a game-high 16 points.
Sarah Schnieders chipped in with 12. Caroline Bourliox led the way with eight rebounds.
Scoring
Through five games this season, both the Lady Lions and their opponents have scored 186 points. In the second half, Lindenwood is scoring 203 and opponents 205.
Welcome Back
Junior guard
Morgan Harrington missed the team's previous three games due to injury, but made her return to the lineup against Southeast Missouri State. Harrington made an immediate impact coming off the bench. She scored a game-high 16 points on six-for-11 shooting.
Close Games
In all of the Lady Lions seven games this season, every contest has been decided by 10 points or less.
Spreading It Around
The Lady Lions have done a great job spreading around the scoring. Four separate ladies are averaging in double figures. Leading the way is
Morgan Harrington with 12.3 points.
Making all the Starts
Sophomore
Caroline Bourlioux is the only Lady Lion that has started all seven games.
Defense Playing Well
Lindenwood's defense has been very good this season. The team has only surrendered over 70 points two times. Opponents are also shooting under 40 percent from the field.
Getting to the Line
Four out of the five Lady Lions' starters have all been to the free-throw line at least 22 times. Leading the way is
Caroline Bourlioux who has taken 26 free-throw attempts.
Double Digit Scoring
As a team, the Lady Lions have put together 19 double digit scoring games.
Sarah Schnieders leads the way with five 10+ point games.
Block Party
The team has had more blocks than its opponents in all but three games. When the Lady Lions have more blocks the team is 3-1. Bourlioux leads the team with four blocks.
Moving up the List
Sarah Schnieders is beginning to move into the record books. With six more blocks she will move into 10th place on Lindenwood's all-time block list.
Opponents
This season with the Lindenwood athletics department in a transition year, the team will be taking on a wide range of opponents. The Lady Lions will play 10 NCAA Division II teams, five NAIA teams, and two NCAA Division I teams.
Road Warriors
The Lady Lions will be criss-crossing the country in 2011-12 and will also take a trip off the continental United States. Lindenwood will travel to 10 states this season including the program's first ever trip to Hawaii. The ladies will travel to Louisiana, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and South Dakota.
About the Hornets
The Hornets have started the season with a record of 0-10. The team has surrendered four games of 100 points or more.
Harris-Stowe's offense is averaging 10 points a game and 84 points on defense.
Leading the way offensively is a threesome who is scoring in double digits. Kayla Fisher leads the team with 15.8 points while Tonette Murphy scores 12.8, and KeAris Vaughn chips in with 10.2 points. Murphy also leads the team in rebounds with 8.7.
Dennis Griffin is the head coach of the Hornets and is in his second season.
About the Owls
William Woods enters this weekend's game with a record of 7-2. The team is the first team outside the NAIA top 25.
The Owls score 58 points on the offensive side of the floor. The defense surrenders only 55 points, which is the 19th fewest in the NAIA.
Sharron Andrews leads the team in scoring with 14 points. Megan Aubuchon leads the team in rebounding with 8.0 boards a game.
Dan Chapla is in his fourth season at the helm of the women's basketball program.
About the Eagles
Robert Morris comes into this weekend with a record of 9-1. The Eagles will play MidAmerica Nazarene before taking on the Lady Lions. Robert Morris is ranked No. 20 in the latest NAIA national poll.
As a team, the Eagles average over 18 steals a game which is the second most in the country. On offense, Robert Morris scores 75 points while surrendering just 57 on defense.
Celeste Jones leads the way with 13 points a game. Unigua Hampton is second on the team with 12.9 points. Sarah Rogers averages 12.5 points and is first on the team with 7.4 rebounds a game.
