Box Score The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team beat the William Woods Owls 51-49 on Friday night at the MidAmerica Nazarene Classic in Olathe, Kan.
The contest started out with the two teams swapping the lead on nine separate occasions in the first 11 minutes. Trailing by one with just over eight minutes to play, the Lady Lions went on an 11-2 run to take the lead by eight. William Woods stopped the run and cut the lead to four at the end of the opening half.
The second half started with both teams struggling. The Lady Lions made just two of their first six shots. But Lindenwood did extend the lead to eight over that span, because the Owls missed their first two shots and turned the ball over three times in its first five possessions.
The Lady Lions held an eight point advantage and continued to lead until the 11 minute mark. At that point William Woods went on a quick 5-0 spurt, to tie the game at 35. For the next six minutes, the teams traded the lead back-and-forth four times.
Finally, with three minutes to play Lindenwood took control of the game. Morgan Harrinton gave the Lady Lions the lead with a jumper and
Caroline Bourlioux extended the lead to four with a pair of free throws. The Lady Lions held off a final flurry from the Owls and won the game by two.
Both teams struggled shooting the ball on the night. Lindenwood shot 35 percent from the field and William Woods compiled a field percentage of 32 percent. The Owls outrebounded the Lady Lions 47-36 including a 16-7 margin on the offensive glass.
Harrington led the way for Lindenwood scoring 15 points.
Marissa Lehnig chipped in with 12 points, and
Sarah Schnieders led the way on the glass with 10 rebounds. Bourlioux filled up the stat sheet with six points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
With the win the Lady Lions improve their record to 5-4. There is no rest for Lindenwood as the team will be back in action Saturday night against Robert Morris.
