Women's Basketball Travels to Hawaii

The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team will travel off the continental United States for the first time in school history when it takes on two teams in Hawaii.

Lindenwood will be back in action after taking a week of for the holidays starting with a contest against the University of Hawaii at Hilo. After the game, the team will take on Chaminade to wrap up its trip through Hawaii.

The Lady Lions will be looking to continue their three-game winning streak and their early season success.

Last Time Out
The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team spent last weekend on the road in Olathe, Kan. for the MidAmerica Nazarene Classic.

The team started off the weekend with a contest against William Woods. The Owls entered the game just one spot out of the NAIA's top 25.

Lindenwood beat the Owls 51-49 in a nip and tuck game from the opening tip. With three minutes to play, Lindenwood took control of the game. Morgan Harrington gave the Lady Lions the lead with a jumper and Caroline Bourlioux extended the lead to four with a pair of free throws. The Lady Lions held off a final flurry from the Owls and won the game by two.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball on the night. Lindenwood shot 35 percent from the field and William Woods compiled a field percentage of 32 percent.

Harrington led the way for Lindenwood scoring 15 points. Marissa Lehnig chipped in with 12 points, and Sarah Schnieders led the way on the glass with 10 rebounds.

In the second game of the weekend, the Lady Lions took on Robert Morris. The Eagles entered the game ranked No. 22 in the NAIA.
Lindenwood used a career-night from Bourlioux to roll to a 87-53 win.

Bourlioux led the way for the Lady Lions with a career-high 25 points on 11-for-14 shooting. She also grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists.

Harrington was second on the team in scoring with 13 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Katie Brown also scored a career-high 12 points and Julie Hlinak chipped in with 10 points.

Close Games
The Lady Lions have played a lot of close games this season. Eight out of 10 games have been decided by 10 or less points.

Spreading It Around
The Lady Lions have done a great job spreading around the scoring. Three separate ladies are averaging in double figures. Leading the way is Morgan Harrington with 13.3 points.

Making all the Starts
Sophomore Caroline Bourlioux is the only Lady Lion that has started all 10 games.

Defense Playing Well
Lindenwood's defense has been very good this season. The team has only surrendered over 70 points two times. Opponents are also shooting under 40 percent from the field.

Getting to the Line
Four out of the five Lady Lions' starters have all been to the free-throw line at least 22 times. Leading the way is Caroline Bourlioux who has taken 39 free-throw attempts.

Double Digit Scoring
As a team, the Lady Lions have put together 27 double digit scoring games. Sarah Schnieders leads the way with five 10+ point games.

Moving up the List
Sarah Schnieders is beginning to move into the record books. With six more blocks she will move into 10th place  on Lindenwood's all-time block list.

Leading at the Half
When the Lady Lions are in the lead at the half the team is successful. In the six games the team has led at the half Lindenwood is 5-1.

Leading Scorers
The team has had several different ladies lead the squad in scoring. Five separate Lady Lions have been the leading scorer in games this season. Schnieders has been the leading scorer three times which is the most on the team.

Starting Lineups
In the team's 10 games this season there has been five different starting lineups. The combo of Harrington, Lehnig, Bourlioux, Schneiders, and Brown have been the best at 3-0.

Neutral Site Dominance
Playing away from home, especially on neutral sites has been very successful for the Lady Lions. In six games on neutral courts the team is 5-1.

Freshman Stepping Up
The 2011-12 edition of the Lady Lions is a very young squad. The team consists of four freshman, and six sophomores. The freshman have adjusted really well to the college game, and are averaging just over 20 combined points a game.

Opponents
This season with the Lindenwood athletics department in a transition year, the team will be taking on a wide range of opponents. The Lady Lions will play 10 NCAA Division II teams, five NAIA teams, and two NCAA Division I teams.

Road Warriors
The Lady Lions will be criss-crossing the country in 2011-12 and will also take a trip off the continental United States. Lindenwood will travel to 10 states this season including the program's first ever trip to Hawaii. The ladies will travel to Louisiana, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and South Dakota.

About Hawaii-Hilo
Hawaii at Hilo enters the contest against the Lady Lions with a record of 3-5 and 2-3 at home. The Vulcans are a NCAA Division II member.

The Vulcans give up 61.1 points on defense and score 52 points on offense. The team has struggled shooting the ball this season with a field goal percentage of 32 percent.

Hillary Hurley is the team's leading scorer with an average of 14.8 points a night. She is also the leading rebounder with 8.0 rebounds. Kristen Shimizu is second on the team with 9.3 points.

David Kaneshiro is in his second season at the helm of the women's basketball program.

About Chaminade
The Chaminade Silver Swords enter this week with a record of 0-6. The Silver Swords are members of the NCAA Division II.

The Silver Swords average 59 points a game offense and 79.5 on defense. The team is being outrebounded by almost 10 a game.

Jordan Ahakuelo leads the team in scoring with 10.8 points and also grabs 4.6 rebounds. Rhani Kaneaiakula is second the team with 9.3 points.

Bobby Keanin is in his second season  as the head coach.
