The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team finds itself back in second place all alone after beating Benedictine 70-60 in Atchison, Kan.
Benedictine jumped out to an early 6-3 lead but the Lady Lions did not trail for long, scoring the game's next nine points to take a 12-6 lead. The Lady Lion lead grew to as many as 12 before Benedictine closed the gap to just two, 27-25 at the half.
For only the second time in the game, Benedictine took the lead by a 37-34 score with 14:53 to play. That was the last time the Ravens would hold a lead. For the next seven minutes, the Lady Lions dominated play. The Lady Lions put together an 18-0 run to jump out to a 15-point lead.
Even though the home team was trailing by 15, the Ravens did not go away. Benedictine chipped away at the lead and eventually got as close as two points with 2:41 to play. After surrendering the big lead, the Lady Lions answered with another run to close the game out, winning by a 10 point margin.
Both teams struggled taking care of the basketball combing for 51 turnovers. The Lady Lions did win the battle of the boards outrebounding the Ravens 43-25. Lindenwood ended the day shooting 40 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free throw line.
Morgan Harrington led the way for the Lady Lions scoring 20 points and dishing out six assists. Kelly Albers recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Caroline Bourlioux also chipped in with 15 points to go along with eight rebounds.
With the win the Lady Lions improve their overall record to 14-8 and 10-4 in HAAC play. Lindenwood will be back on its home court Monday night against Fisk University.
