Women's Volleyball Falls In First Home Match To Missouri Baptist

The Lindenwood women's volleyball team fell in its home opener on Wednesday night at the Hyland Arena. The Lady Lions lost to crosstown rival Missouri Baptist by scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-23.

The Spartans dominated the first two sets as Lindenwood made 19 hitting errors and had a .010 hitting percentage for those two games. In the third game, the Lady Lions put up a fight as the set had 10 ties and five lead changes. Lindenwood led 21-20 after a kill by Katie Weber, but the Lady Lions didn't score again off their serve. Missouri Baptist scored four of the final five points of the set with three kills and a big service ace while the score was knotted at 22.

Missouri Baptist finished the match with a .186 hitting percentage, compared to a .065 mark for Lindenwood. The Spartans had eight more kills and seven less hitting errors. Missouri Baptist also had four more aces, six more digs, and one more block.

Katie Weber was the top threat on the evening for Lindenwood as she had 10 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. She also led the team with four blocks. Ellen Fandry had a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, and Emma Brydels had a double-double with 15 assists and 11 digs. Kelsey Biggs led the Lady Lions with 16 assists and Kaila Schrimpf had a team-high 18 digs.

Lindenwood falls to 2-3 on its season and will compete in the Southwest Baptist Purple Bash this weekend. The Lady Lions have four matches, including three against future MIAA opponents.
