Storyline
Last week, the Lindenwood women's basketball team travelled nearly 8,500 miles during a two-game road trip. This week, the team is travelling less than 1,400 miles for its latest road adventure. The Lady Lions will take on New Orleans this Saturday. The game has a new start time of 12 p.m.
The contest is between two teams that are transitioning to the NCAA Division II level. The Lady Lions are moving up from the NAIA while New Orleans is making the move from the NCAA Division I level.
Lindenwood is having the better transition season. The Lady Lions have won four out of their last five games and are 7-5 on the year. That includes a 1-1 mark last week during its trip to Hawaii. New Orleans, meanwhile, is still search for its first victory of the season and is hoping to snap a 17-game losing streak that goes back to last season.
Last Time Out
Lindenwood found itself playing a new style of basketball last week with games versus Hawaii at Hilo and Chaminade. The Lady Lions had trouble adjusting to the tougher play in a loss to Hawaii at Hilo, but it bounced back and left the Aloha State with a win over Chaminade.
Lindenwood fell to Hawaii at Hilo by a 56-43 margin. Both teams started the contest struggling from the field. The opening half saw the Lady Lions shoot 35 percent and Hilo shooting just 28 percent. At the end of the half Lindenwood held a 23-19 advantage.
After the break, Hilo found its stroke and the Lady Lions did not. Hilo shot almost 20 percent better in the final half compared to the Lady Lions, who made just five field goals in 27 attempts. The home team outscored Lindenwood 37-20 in the final 20 minutes and rolled to the 13 point victory.
The Lady Lions turned the ball over 20 times and were outrebounded by a 41-39 margin. The two teams combined to shoot 1-for-22 from behind the three-point line.
Sarah Schnieders led the way for Lindenwood with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Morgan Harrington also scored 11 points and compiled four steals.
The Lady Lions won the second game, 77-57 over the Chaminade Silverswords.
The Lady Lions and the Silverwords played most of the first half back and forth. With nine minutes to go, the Lions took the lead 33-32 and never looked back. Lindenwood took the lead into the locker room 38-33.
The final half was all Lindenwood. The Lady Lions extended the lead to as many as 22 in the finial half before rolling to the 20 point victory.
Lindenwood shot 54 percent from the field and 45 percent from behind the arc. The Lady Lions did turn the ball over 25 times and forced 21 Chaminade turnovers.
Schnieders led the way for the Lady Lions with 26 points. Harrington scored 22 and had five rebounds.
Defense Wins Games
Lindenwood's defense has been improving as the season goes along. On the year, the team is allowing just 62.0 points a game. The squad has not allowed 70 or more points over the last eight games, and it has not allowed over 60 points for the last four contests.
In that recent four-game span, the Lady Lions are holding opponents to just 31.4 percent shooting from the field and 16.9 percent shooting from three-point range. For the season, opponents are shooting 36.1 percent from the field and 23.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Sarah Schnieders had a big week in Hawaii. The junior recorded Lindenwood's first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds versus Hawaii at Hilo. She then scored a career-high 26 points in the win over Chaminade.
For the week, she averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists a game, and she shot 65 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free-throw line.
Hitting The Boards
Morgan Harrington does many things for the Lady Lions, including hitting the boards in recent games. Harrington is averaging over six rebounds a game over the last three contests, tying for the team-high during that span.
Improved Rebounding
Lindenwood has improved its rebounding as the season goes on. Over the first six games of the year, the Lady Lions were -2 on the boards. For the last six contests, Lindenwood is +34.
Hot or Cold Shooting
Lindenwood's shooting this season has usually been very hot or very cold, with few games in between.
In half of their games, the Lady Lions have shot 50 percent or highter from the field. They are 5-1 in those contests.
In four other games, Lindenwood has shot under 36 percent. The team is 1-3 in those contests.

This season with the Lindenwood athletics department in a transition year, the team will be taking on a wide range of opponents. The Lady Lions will play 10 NCAA Division II teams, five NAIA teams, and two NCAA Division I teams.
Road Warriors
The Lady Lions will be criss-crossing the country in 2011-12, including a trip off the continental United States. Lindenwood will travel to 10 states this season including the program's first ever trip to Hawaii. The ladies will travel to Louisiana, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and South Dakota.
About New Orleans
New Orleans enters Saturday's contest with a 0-15 record this season. The team has lost four games by 10 or less points, with the closest contest being a 66-63 setback against Dillard.
New Orleans is averaging 52.1 points a game and is allowing 77.3. The Lady Privateers are shooting 34 percent from the field, 24.7 percent from three-point range, and 62.7 percent from the free-throw line. They are being outrebounded by over 17 rebounds a game.
Mirjam Sipos is the team's offensive leader with 13.2 points a game. Yosha Watson is the top presence inside with 9.5 points and 6.7 rebounds a game.
Keeshawn Carter is the interim head coach of New Orleans. This season is her ninth as a member of the coaching staff there.
