Volleyball Takes The Sweep Against Fort Hays

Box Score The Lindenwood women's volleyball team began its long road trip by defeating Fort Hays State on Friday evening, 3-0.

The Lady Lions kept the Tigers enough at a distance to take the three-set victory, 25-23, 25-15, and 30-28. Lindenwood led by as many as five going late into the first set, before a four-point rally by Fort Hays State bringing the score to 23-22. A kill by Megan Dillon gave the Lady Lions set point at 24-22. Kayla Guyot finished the game off, all while holding the Tigers to just a .059 hitting percentage.

Set two was all Lindenwood, as the Lady Lions took advantage of an 8-2 run during the middle of the set. The final ten points went back-and-forth between the two squads, but the Lady Lions never relinquished their commanding ten point lead.

Both teams went on streaks in the third set, with neither team jumping out to a commanding lead. They continued to exchange leads, until Lindenwood finished the Tigers off with three straight points. In the third set alone, there were nine ties and five lead changes between the two schools.

Guyot led the Lady Lions with 12 kills while senior Katie Weber recorded 10. Emma Brydels had 37 of the team's 42 assists and Kaila Schrimpf led all players with 19 digs.

The Lady Lions now improve to 13-8 on the year and 3-4 in the MIAA all while winning seven out of their last eight. They will continue their road trip on Saturday as they head north to Kearney, Neb. to take the No. 1 ranked Nebraska-Kearney. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
