Women's Volleyball Defeats Southwest Baptist In Three At Hyland Arena

Box Score The Lindenwood women's volleyball team snapped its six-game losing streak by defeating Southwest Baptist at Hyland Arena on Tuesday night, 3-0.

The Lady Lions took control from get go, taking set one 25-18, set two 25-19 and set three 25-23. The Lindenwood jumped ahead in set one with, posting a .378 hitting percentage backed by 18 kills with only four errors. Seniors Kelsey Kennedy and Katie Weber propelled the offense in the set, recording five kills apiece.

The second set told a similar tale as the first, as the Lady Lions hit .324 as a squad. Five different members recorded kills, led by freshman Kayla Guyot's four.

Lindenwood and Southwest Baptist kept the score close in the third, as SBU never allowed the Lady Lions to expand their lead. Southwest Baptist battled off one set point before the Lady Lions finished them off at 25-23.

The Lady Lions continued their strong offensive showing, as they hit .267 in set three to hit .319 for the match. The Lindenwood defense held Southwest Baptist to a .202 clip while not allowing a single player to reach double-digit kills.

Kennedy recorded 13 kills for the evening, followed by Weber and Guyot with 11. Guyot recorded five blocks for the evening. Emma Brydels led all players on the floor with 34 assists and tallied 10 digs. Kaila Schrimpf also recorded double-digit digs with 15.

Lindenwood now improves to 14-14 for the season and 4-10 in the MIAA. The Lady Lions will host their final home meet of the 2012 on Saturday afternoon against Missouri Western. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
