Men's Basketball Goes on the Road for the First Time

• The Lions enter tonight's game with a record of 2-0. Lindenwood is coming off a 78-45 win over the Westminster Blue Jays. .

• Today's game is the first road game of the season for the Lions as they travel to Springfield, Ill. to take on the Illinois-Springfeild Prairie Stars. Last season, Lindenwood compiled a record of 7-1 when the team played away from Hyland Arena.

• The Prairie Stars come into today's game with a record of 1-2. The team is coming off a win at home against Benedictine. Illinois-Springfield plays its conference game in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

• Today's game will be the first time the Lions and the Prairie Stars have played each other.

• The game will be the first contest of the season against a NCAA Division II school.

• Last season, Lindenwood averaged over 85 points a game which was the most in school history. This season the Lions started off the first game scoring 86.5 points.  

• The offense from a year ago was so potent that it scored over 80 points 22 out of 31 games. The team was 20-2 in those games. Already this season the Lions have scored over 80 in both wins.  

• The Lions head out on the road this weekend which was very good for the team last season. Lindenwood was 7-1 on opponents floors and 9-1 on neutral courts.

• Dating back to last season Lindenwood has a current nine game home winning streak.

• This season's roster consists of five seniors and those seniors are leading the way. The five seniors scored 63 percent of the team's average points per game.

• Senior point guard Alex Bazzell is creeping up the career lists at Lindenwood. He is just 94 points away from being the ninth player in school history to score 1,000 points. He is third in free throws made, fourth in assists, and second in free throw percentage.

• Defense has been the name of the game in the early season. The Lions are holding their opponents to just 29 percent shooting from the field. Opponents are scoring just 54 points.

• Senior forward Richie Thompson has been dominating the glass in the early season. Thompson  has grabbed 12 rebounds in each of the team's first two games. He has grabbed a total of 22.4 percent of the possible rebounds while he is on the court.

• Freshman guard Brandon Marquardt is making an early impact in his first season of college basketball. Through two games he is averaging 11.5 points and is a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the three point line.

• Through two games this season Lindenwood is absolutely dominating the glass. The team is averaging 53 rebounds a game compared to its opponents 28.

• After two games, the Lions have shot 26 more free throws than their opponents. Lindenwood is shooting 68 percent from the field and opponents are shooting 66 percent.  

Cody Sorenson and Richie Thompson compiled the team's first double-doubles of the season against Westminster. Both grabbed 12 rebounds each while Sorenson scored 13 and Thompson 10.

Brett Thompson is making his return to the court in 2012-13. After red shirting in 2011-12 due to a knee injury he is back in the Lions lineup. In his two seasons of playing on the court for Lindenwood he is averaging 9.8 points and over six rebounds. In his first games Thompson is scoring 11.5 points and grabbing 4.5 rebounds.  

• In both of the team's first games the Lions have won by 33 points.

• The Lions return seven of their top eight scorers from last season's squad. The only loss was Kramer Soderberg who averaged 17.9 points.  

• After playing a season without a conference the Lions will play this year in the MIAA. Lindenwood will play 18 conference games.• The Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars host the Lions on Saturday afternoon.  The Prairie Stars have started the 2012-13 seaon with a record of 1-2.

• The Prairie Stars are led by Kyle Gupton who is averaging 12.3 points a game. Dylan Sparkman is second on the team in scoring with just under 10 points a game.

• Illinois-Springfield is shooting 43.6 percent from the field in the early season.

• Ben Wierzba is in his third season at the helm of the men's basketball program. In his first two seasons he has led the Prairie Stars to a record of 23-30.

• The Hyland Arena floor has been very good to the Lions since Brad Soderberg took over. In his first four seasons, Lindenwood is 41-5 at home.  

• For the first time in school history the Lions have had three consecutive 20 win seasons. All three seasons have been under the watchful eye of Coach Soderberg.
