Box Score The Lindenwood men's basketball team outscored the Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars 12-7 in overtime on the way to an 89-84 win on Saturday afternoon.
Four out the Lions five starters scored in double-figures and the team won the rebounding battle on the way to the first road win of the season.
Lindenwood started the contest scoring the first 11-of-16 points taking the early five-point lead. At the 10 minute mark of the first half Illinois-Springfield took the lead for the first time after going on a 9-0 run.
The Prairie Stars continued to lead until the three minute mark when the Lions took their second lead of the game. That lead lasted just 11 seconds, as Illinois-Springfield scored the final seven of nine points in the first half to take the lead by one.
The last 20 minutes of regulation was back-and-forth half. There was four ties and six lead changes, while Lindenwood's largest lead was four and the Prairie Stars was six.
With just over two minutes to go, the home team clung to a six-point lead.
Tyler Ressel connected on two three-pointers in between an Illinois-Springfield free throw to get the Lions within one.
Cody Sorenson made one of two free throws with 21 seconds to go to tie the score. The game headed into overtime tied at 77.
Lindenwood started the overtime scoring the first 10 points and taking a commanding lead. The home team scored some late buckets to cut the lead to five but was as close as it could get.
Tyler Ressel and
Alex Bazzell led the way for the Lions scoring a game-high 20 points each.
Brett Thompson scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Richie Thompson chipped in with 11 points and led the team with eight rebounds.
Lindenwood shot 43 percent from the field and 35 percent from behind the arc. The Lions won the rebounding battle 44-38 and forced the Prairie Stars into 16 turnovers.
With the win Lindenwood moves to 3-0 on the season. The Lions will be back in action on Nov. 27 at home against William Woods.
