Box Score The Lindenwood women's hockey team fell in its inaugural College Hockey America (CHA) contest on Friday night at Lindenwood Ice Arena. The Lady Lions lost 6-1 to No. 5 Mercyhurst.
The contest was very similar to Lindenwood's home opener this season against Wisconsin. The Lady Lions had a strong first period including scoring the first goal of the game. Lindenwood went on the power play and
Allysson Arcibal gave it a lead with her second goal of the season.
Chelsea Witwicke and
Caitlyn Post assisted on the goal.
Mercyhurst answered with a power-play goal at the 12:50 mark and the two teams were tied at one after one period. Lindenwood took 13 shots in the first period, compared to 20 for Mercyhurst.
In the second period, the Lakers scored four goals to break the game open. The biggest score was a shorthanded goal that came less than one minute after Mercyhurst scored the game-winning goal. It then added two more goals in the final six minutes of the period. The Lakers added one more power-play goal in the third period.
Over the last two periods, Mercyhurst outshot Lindenwood by a 47-9 mark, and the final tally was 67-22. The Lakers were three-of-seven on the power play, while the Lady Lions were one-and-three with a man advantage.
Nicole Hensley made 61 saves in goal and
Brett Lobreau had three blocks.
Alyssa West led the team with five shots.
Lindenwood and Mercyhurst will play game two of the series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
