Women's Basketball Opens 2012-13 Season At Hyland Arena

Game Preview
- The Lady Lions open the 2012-13 season at home, but will not return to Hyland Arena until December 1.

- In 2011-12, the Lady Lions finished with a record of 17-10 while Fontbonne compiled a record of 15-11. The Griffins were 12-4 in SLIAC play.

- The Griffins are one of two NCAA Division III schools that the Lady Lions will compete against this season. The rest of the season composes of 18 MIAA conference games, four games against GLVC opponents, and two games against members of the Sunshine State Conference.

- Since the 2003-04 season, the Lady Lions are 5-4 in home openers.

- The last time these two schools competed was last season in an exhibition game. Lindenwood defeated Fontbonne, 74-62.

- Lindenwood is coming off of a two-game winning streak to finish up the 2011-12 season. The Lady Lions defeated Oakland City 90-55 and Lindenwood-Belleville 90-72. Both contests were held at Hyland Arena.

Lindenwood Notes
- Four of the five primary starters are returning to this year's squad from last season. Marissa Lehnig led the squad last season with 12.1 points per game while starting in 23 of 27 games. Sarah Schnieders started in 25 games while Caroline Bourlioux started in all 27. Katie Brown started in 24.

- The Lady Lions saw action against two, fellow MIAA newcomers during the 2011-12 season. Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State were both on Lindenwood's schedule twice, and both times the Oklahoma schools came out on top.

Four out of the top five leading scorers are returning from last season. Those four combined for 44.3 total points per game, just less than two-thirds of the team's scoring average.

The Lady Lions won 12 of their 17 games in the 2011-12 season by margins of eight or more points.

The key loss from the 2011-12 squad is Morgan Harrington. Harrington averaged 10.2 points per game along with owning a .931 free-throw percentage.

Lindenwood recorded a higher field-goal percentage, three-point percentage and points per game than its opponents.

Bourlioux led the squad in rebounds per game last year with 6.3. The junior snagged 115 defensive and 56 offensive boards.

The Lady Lions were 13-4 when they outrebounded their opponents.

The Lindenwood defense held its opponents to 63.5 points per contest and a .387 field-goal percentage. The Lady Lions outrebounded opponents 1055 to 948 during the season.

After the 2011-12 season, the Lindenwood women's basketball squad was recognized by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association for its work in the classroom. The team finished with a team GPA of 3.567 which was the seventh-highest GPA in all of NCAA Division II.

This season marks the inaugural season for the Lady Lions in the MIAA. The MIAA is one of the top basketball conferences in Division II.

- Due to being in NCAA Division II provisional status, the Lady Lions will not have the opportunity to compete at the MIAA conference tournament in March.

- Lindenwood produced a 6-3 record at Hyland Arena last season. The Lady Lions also went 14-3 after leading at the half.

- The Lady Lions will next head to Florida for the Saint Leo Invitational. Lindenwood will take on Saint Leo on November 16 and Tampa on November 18.

About Fontbonne
Fontbonne ended the 2011-12 season with an overall record of 15-11 under first year head coach Matt Wickenhauser.

- The Griffins went 12-4 last year in conference play and finished third overall in the SLIAC.

- Allison Hogan is the top returner for the Griffins. Hogan averaged just under 10 points per game along with contributing 4.3 rebounds per contest. Hogan started in all 26 games for Fontbonne.

Chelsey Freymuth is a key factor inside for the Griffins. Freymuth led the squad last year with 6.8 rebounds a game.
