Women's Volleyball Falls To No. 3 Washburn

Box Score The Lindenwood women's volleyball team fell in three to No. 3 ranked Washburn on Friday night in Topeka, Kan. The Lady Blues held Lindenwood to scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-18.

The Lady Lions stayed close in the first set, never letting the Lady Blues lead extend more than two, until the final six points of the set. Washburn finished set one by rallying five out of the last six points.

A five-point rally in the middle of the second set ultimately gave Washburn the edge, as Lindenwood battled back-and-forth through the first and last part of the set.

A .353 hitting clip in the second set for the Lady Blues carried them into the third, as Lindenwood could not quite gain control of the set. The Lady Lions kept the Washburn lead to just one at 14-13, but an 11-4 run by the Lady Blues closed out the third set and the match.

Seniors Kelsey Kennedy and Erin Anselman led the team offensively with eight kills apiece while Emma Brydels recorded 30 assists for the evening. Kaila Schrimpf led the team with 13 digs.

The Lady Lions defense held Washburn's Jessica Fey to only eight kills on 15 attempts. Fey currently is second in the league in hitting percentage and fifth in total kills.

Lindenwood falls to 15-16 and 5-12 in the MIAA. The Lady Lions will finish the 2012 season on Saturday as they travel to Emporia State. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
