Lady Lions Snap Six-Game Losing Streak With Victory At Illinois-Springfield

Box Score The Lindenwood women's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak as they defeated Illinois-Springfield on Saturday by a score of 66-62.
 
Marissa Lehnig had a big day for the Lady Lions, producing a season-high 18 points and six rebounds en route to the four point victory.
 
Illinois-Springfield jumped out to a quick 6-0 start within the first three minutes of the contest. Despite a slow start, the Lady Lions slowly diminished the Prairie Stars lead as the half progressed. Two ties later, the Lady Lions took over the lead at the 3:20 mark after a lay-up by Sarah Schnieders. Lindenwood continued to build its lead to four before the end of the half.
 
The second half proved to fall Lindenwood's way, as the Lady Lions had control of the lead all but 43 seconds early in the half. The Lady Lions were up by as many as seven on several occasions and were up six in the final seconds before a lay-up by Illinois-Springfield's Ashley Coffey at the buzzer cut the lead to four.
 
Lindenwood continued to diminish its turnovers, losing the ball a season-low 14 times while forcing 20 Prairie Star turnovers. Lindenwood shot just over 48 percent from the floor while holding Illinois-Springfield to 43.9 percent.
 
Three other Lindenwood players contributed double-digit points, with Schnieders and Julie Hlinak adding 12 a piece and sophomore point guard Meagan Hittle adding 11. Schnieders led the Lady Lions in rebounds with eight.
 
Lindenwood improves to 2-6 on the year and 1-2 against GLVC opponents. The Lady Lions will travel along with the men's basketball team to Missouri S & T on Wednesday, December 19 in the final GLVC contest of the 2012-13 season. Tip-off in Rolla is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
